On Thursday the 24th instant will be hired out at Kinston for one year about
forty slaves and several plantations to be leased for the same term the property
of the Heirs & Legatees of the Hon'ble Richard Caswell Esq'r Dec'd. All persons
indebted to the estate of said Deceased are requested to make payment on that
day otherwise suits will be commenced against them without respect of persons.

To the Sheriff of Cumberland County, Greeting:
You are hereby commanded to take the bodies of James Carraway & Charles Stewart
Carraway (if to be found in your county) and them safely keep, so that you have
them before the Judge of the Superior Court of Law, to be held for the County of
Lenoir at the Court House in Kinston on the third Monday in October next; then
and there to answer Dallam Caswell surviving Exe'r of Richard Caswell dec'd of a
plea that they render him two hundred and sixty pounds Virginia Currency equal
in value to four hundred & thirty three pounds six shillings & eight pence which
to him they owe & unjustly obtained to his damage three hundred pounds.
Herein fail not, and have you then and there this writ.

April and in the XXXII year of our independence, A. D. 1808.

Know all men by these presents that we Dallam Caswell & John Gatlin are held and
firmly bound to James Carraway & C. S. Carraway in the just and full sum of one
hundred pounds; to the payment whereof well and truly to be made to the said
James & Charles S. Carraway their executors, administrators or assigns, we bind
ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally,
firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals, and dated this 20th day of May
1808.
The condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas a writ has this day
been sued out of the office of the Clerk of Lenoir County in a suit wherein D.
Caswell Exe'r of Richard Caswell is plaintiff and James Carraway & C. S.
Carraway defendants. Now in case the said suit be prosecuted with effect, or if
the plaintiff, in case he be cast therein, do well and truly pay to the
defendant all such costs and damages as shall be awarded by the court, having
cognizance thereof in the premises, then the above obligation to be void.

honourable Judge of the superior court of law to be held for the county of Wayne
on the first Monday in September present next, then and there to testify and the
truth to say on behalf of Dellum Caswell Exe'r of Rich'd Caswell in a certain
matter of controversy in the said court depending, and then and there to be
tried between sd. Caswell Plaintiff and James Carraway & Charles Carraway
Defendants; and this you shall in no wise omit, under the penalty by law.
