DIXON Deeds and Indentures  

Between Murfree Dickson & his wife, of Green County and Benijah Dickson

July 16, 1807

This Indenture made the 16th day of January in the Year of our Lord 1807 and the 37th year of the Independence of the United States of America, Between Murfree Dickson & his wife, of the State of North Carolina, Green County, Cabinet-maker of the one part and Benijah Dickson of the State and County aforesaid, planter of the other part; Witnesseth that he the said Murfree Dickson For and in the consideration of the great love & affection he bears for his lawful son Benijah and for the sum of one dollar ($1) to him in hand paid at and before the sealing & Delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged that he the said Murfree Dickson hath bargained & sold & by these presents doth bargain sell unto the said Benijah Dickson all that plantation or tract of Land known by the name of the Chiking Forte containing 200 acres more or less lying & being on the north side of Contentny Creek and bounded by said Creek, Smiths old field, Obed Dickson Fort Hill tract, Francis Harper and the sd. Murfree Dicksons Tar landing. Also two hundred and twenty acres of the Grampion Hills plantion, where on the said Murfree Dickson now lives, called Sandy Lawn quarter adjoining the road from Murfree's Ferry to Hookers Great Bridge and the main run of Contentny Creek. Also three negroes viz. Sissyfus, a house-joyner, his wife Molsey and Berry, the bricklayer with one set of joyner's tools, I whip saw, 2 cross saws, a quantity of cherry planking, 1 dining table, 1 set of winsor chairs, one secatary & furniture, one bed and furniture, 2 cows with calfs, 1 horse, 6 sows with pigs, 1 ram & 12 ewes, one gig and harness, one cart & wheles, 2 steers and a quantity of nails and hardware to have and to hold together with all & singular the Houses, out houses, Buildings, Barns, Stables, Yards, Gardens, Orchards, Wood & under Woods, timber & Timber trees, meadows, pastures, Warter and warter courses, paths, passages profits, Heriditaments members & appurtenances, thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining & the Reversion & Reversions Remainder & Remainders - profits & every part & parcel thereof. To have and to hold the sd. plantations or tracts of land containing 420 acres more or less with every the premises & appurtenances thereunto belonging, unto the sd. Binijah Dickson, his heirs, executors, administrators & assigns from the next before the Day of the date of these presents for & during the full End & Term of one Whole Year from thence, next ensuing & fully to be completed and Ended Yielding and paying unto the said Murfree Dickson the Rent of one Peppercorn on the last day of the sd. term if the same shall be lawfully demanded to the intent and purpose that by Virture of of these presents some of the Statutes for transferring of

 
uses unto possession he the sd Binajah Dickson may be in Actual possession of all & singular the premises above mentioned with every the Appurtenances there unto belonging & thereby be the Better enabled to take & Receive the Reversion & inheritance whereof which is intended to Besto him & his heirs granted & released by the said Murfree

Know ye all men by these words, that I, Mary Dixon of the county of Green, State of north Carolina, do make this indenture on the 5th day of July, 1854, in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and fifty four. Now witnesseth that I the said Mary Dixon being old in age and knowing that my appointed time to die draws ever closer & being mindfull to give those of my black people good homes and masters & to spare them the saddness of being sold upon the block do make gift of my said people to my differeant children in the manner following, viz.:
 
To my four daughters, I give each one negroe. That is to say to Esther Ormond I give one negroe man named Wade. To Nancy Williams I give one negroe girl named Hannack. Io Penelope Cannady I give one negro man named Ruben1 To Mary Dixon, called the younger I give one negro woman named Rebeccah. To have and to hold said slaves for their lifetimes and then to their lawful heirs and assigns. To my son Robert Dixon I give three negroes, viz, one negroe man named Long Jack, one boy named short Jack and one girl named Dinah, to have for his lifetime & then to his lawful heirs and assigns. To my son Richard Dixon I give three negroes, a man named Boe, a woman named Cindia and one girl named Mattie. To have for his lifetime and then to his lawful heirs and assigns. To my son Henry Dixon I give four negroes, a man named Haywood, his wife Lucy, their son Dick and a girl named Sukey, to have for his lifetime & then to his lawful heirs & assigns. To my son Frank Dixon I give three negroes, a Woman named Littie and her two children Poll and Caster, to have for his lifetime & then to his lawful heirs and assigns. Io my son Willis Dixon I give two negroes a man named Rouse and a woman named Annie, to have for his lifetime and then to his lawful heirs and assigns. It is also my desire that my old nurse and campanion Elveda be given her freedom for so many years of faithful servace and that my son Henry Dixon maintain her in the little cottage behind the kitchen for her old age and blindness with the house and board and every of her needs for the rest of her life, And so saying, I the said Mary Dixon do set my hand & seal the day & date above written

part - UZZLE and ROBERT LASSITER indebted to SAMUEL H. COWARD in the sum of $35
payable on 1 Sept 1840 and made payable by note dated 16 July 1840 - they wish to
make payment - pledge to WILLIAM DIXON for $1.00 all crops on land which was
sold by WILLIAM HART late of Greene to THOMAS DAILE now property of SAMUEL H.
COWARD who purchased the same on 28 Dec 1839 - will repay debt after 40 days

firmly by these presents signed with our hand and sealed with our seal this
16th day Nov. AD 1858.
 
The condition of the above obligation is such that both are of the same
condition, Lemuel G. Lasitter has this day received of William Dixon and of
the Executor of Bryant H. Sanders, deceased, the sum of $800. being the sum
left Treacy Lasitter by will of said deceased and the same this day paid
over by William Dixon Admr. of the said deceased have therefore if any debt
or debts truly owing by the said deceased shall hearafter _____ for or
otherwise made_____or and that said L.G. Lasitter shall and will truly
refund and pay his (?estate?) part of such debt or debts then in that case
the above obligation is to be null and void and otherwise remain in full
force and effect.

also lend her 5 Negroes which she now has in her possession to wit woman Nancy
